One OER resources I would like to incorporate into my Systems of Law, Justice and Injustice across cultures is “Survey Discussion On Law & Justice” (https://www.oercommons.org/courseware/lesson/70855/overview?section=0). The survey includes a list of statements concerning students’ philosophical orientations toward law; they can indicate the degree to which they agree or disagree with each statement. Afterward, there are corresponding discussion questions to facilitate their critical self-reflection. I plan to incorporate this assignment at the beginning of the course to help students ground (and become more aware of) their thinking, as well as orient their philosophical/political orientations toward law.
This resource is currently written for 12th grade high school students. I would revise/remix it to make it more applicable to upper-level college students. I would add more questions to the survey and make the questions more advanced. This would help make the survey more directly connected to their experiences and ground their thinking at the beginning of the term. It would also help to facilitate richer student-student conversations afterward.
I am having difficulty finding the exact licensing on the OER, but it does seem to be shareable only, not explicitly revisable. So, I might have to use the current resource as a guide but create my own, while attributing credit to the original creator.

I reviewed a number of sites in order to find examples of instructions that I could provide students as we work on develop a course glossary. I don’t expect that students, in my Fall 2022 class, will build a glossary of all the terms that exist in the course. They will be the group that will begin the process.
I don’t see needing a license for this.
This site will serve as a template for me to use in class. I’ll set up a document with tabs for each letter of the alphabet. I’ll also include a list of resources where students can locate the terms they will use to populate the glossary.
This sounds like a good starting point.
I feel like with a lot of this OER “building class material” we can expect not to see the results we want to see, like those beautiful examples from our Wednesday morning seminars, for at least 2-3 years. It takes some time but will be worth it in the long run. And we will probably learn a lot from our students and how they prefer to learn and obtain this information too!
As mentioned in my discussion post I’ve been struggling to identify relevant resources for the course I’m working on because the course centers on students’ own experiences rather than texbook-style teaching. Zoning law shapes students’ experiences of public space in ways they probably don’t realize, and this course has a video that might work as a syllabus text to give students an introduction to the idea before we discuss it further in class.
I’d like to “remix” it to add my own commentary to parts of the video i don’t agree with. The video has a very uncritical take on zoning law as something “we” all do to help all of “us,” without considering whose interests have more power in the processes that shape zoning laws. I could imagine either adding a caption or a short text of my own with these thoughts, or even add pop-ups to certain parts of the video if that were technically feasible.
The course is only available to share for non-commercial purposes and no modifications are allowed. i would only use it inside my course, so I think that means fair use applies. But it would probably be easiest just to write my own separate little text with commentary on the video.

I really enjoy this virtual textbook I found through OER commons (https://www.khanacademy.org/economics-finance-domain/macroeconomics/macro-basic-economics-concepts/macro-scarcity/v/introduction-to-economics). At first it seems like a mere powerpoint slide but then the author literally highlights and defines key points in the presentation which are exactly the same vocabulary terms that I quiz my students over with their weekly reading assignments. Many students have complained to me that the textbook is too hard to follow or even read, therefore I am considering assigning this virtual textbook alongside with the online textbook that is mandatory through the Economics department for introduction level students. This OER can be used as a guide throughout the entire course and perhaps we can build upon it by using contemporary examples of these key terms (for example, understanding supply and demand in the context of the toilet paper shortage at the beginning of the pandemic).

This resource can be reused every semester since the terms are fixed and cannot really be redefined. However, I believe that specific details from my students’ weekly news articles can be remixed into this specific OER tool so that each semester the material would need to be revised and updated to make the information more contemporary.
3) What license does this OER have and how will it affect your use of it?
I don’t see needing a license for this, it was uploaded to the Khan Academy website and I can use it for years to come! That is, of course, unless some new economic theory comes along that makes Adam Smith and Karl Marx irrelevant.
